Food and Shelter–the basic necessities of life–two really good reasons for a charity run!
This year on Saturday, September 29th, St. John’s Anglican Church in Ida is hosting the Cavan Hills Country Run and dividing the proceeds equally between Homegrown Homes–to help provide affordable housing for low-income families; and The Millbrook Food Share–to help feed them.
Each year volunteers from St. John’s Outreach Committee work diligently to prepare for the most spectacular fall run of the year. This run is so extraordinary that it was worthy of a full-page feature story with colour photographs in the September/October issue of Running Room Magazine that is distributed all across Canada!
Located at McCamus Farms just west of Peterborough, the 4 km walk/run weaves wondrously through tree-lined country roads, fascinating farmer’s fields, magnificent maple sugar shack, golden corn maze, glimmering leaf-ladened forest, and back to McCamus Farms.
The 10 km loop is not for the faint-hearted. Steep rolling hills culminate at the crest with a panoramic view of the skyline amidst breathtaking fall colours. It’s the perfect strength and endurance training ground for half or full marathoners.
Once at the finish line, participants feast on food from local farmer’s fields–baked maple beans and pork, homemade soup, maple sugar tarts, MacIntosh apples and hot apple cider. Winners as well as participants receive generous prizes from numerous event sponsors.
The best thing about the Cavan Hills Country Run is that it is free if participants collect $100 in pledges. This is really easy to do because of the great causes. Participants just have to register online at www.runningroom.com or pick up a registration/pledge form from the Running Room on Hunter St.
The Cavan Hills Country Run is an unforgettable autumn experience so don’t forget your camera.
